Gas Masks
This picture was taken in 1942, and shows Army nurses training for Gas Warfare in World War II. This picture always had surreal look to me.Wanted to let you know that I have a really good mystery person picked out for this Saturday's contest. Be sure to tune in, as it should be a good contest. Poor, Poor Nate. He will not have a chance.

i wonder if they shower every day or it was a once a week type of thing.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos.
PJM enjoyed your pics this year Thanks and I used one in a presentation.Since the furniture trip I believe it is time to strike for your tractor. If you just want to putt around I suggest a useable older unit that you can palm off as an antique. Mine is a 1984 Ford with loader it has a blade, brush hog and is loads of fun. It does not have roll over protection which I highly recommend.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great photo!
ReplyDeleteReally surreal, as you said.
Looks like some of the nuns from grade school. Well, less scary than the nuns.
ReplyDeleteDuring WWII, people in the UK carried gas masks with them at all times. Even little children had a mask in a box on a strap which they wore with their school uniforms, along with a tag that contained their name and address
ReplyDeleteWe were very lucky, here.
happy new year all,cya next year,,
ReplyDeleteoldbear.
i wonder if this is where the Star Wars costume creators got some of their ideas
ReplyDeleteHaven't you shown us this picture before? JUDI
ReplyDeletePJM doesn't do enough home projects himself to use or need a tractor. Just keep hiring people to do the work.
ReplyDeletePJM: About that Fredricksburg trip you & your daughter took: You didn't let us know about it until you were almost out the door. I am sure any one of your loyal female fans who had ever been to Fredericksburg would have told you to make the trip the gift. But...that's water over the dam. ....Is that a bad phrase to for you? How is your yard recovering, by the way? Judi
ReplyDeletePJM does too need a tractor. The reason he does not do more around the yard is that he does not have a tractor. If he had a tractor he could have done many things. The tractor would pay for itself. Plus, it would have helped unload the furniture.
ReplyDeleteJudi- Thank you for the Fredericksburg trip. On the way home from the shopping spree, we got lost in the sleet storm, and almost got seperated from the moving truck. We ended up some how in this little town called Boerne that I had never heard of. I quaint beautiful little town, sort of like Fredericksburg, but a little less touristy looking. Mrs. PJM said she would like to go back there and visit some day when there was not a sleet storm.
Happy New Year, PJM. I have enjoyed the pictures, everyone's comments and all of your stories. Whole lotta fun!
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite photos on your blog.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of my favorite classic TV program, "The Twilight Zone," which by the way is having a marathon on the Syfy Channel this weekend.
